who are we?

About Us

Canadian-owned and operated, we have been manufacturing kraft paper packaging products for a variety of industries since 1946. BAG TO EARTH is at the forefront of providing 100% compostable paper food waste bags.

- Napanee Headquarters

We create paper bags that return to the earth.

Our bags live up to their name by breaking down and completely disappearing into the earth, helping food scraps to do the same. During their short time on this earth, our bags make it easy for households to participate in the right organic waste cycle by effectively diverting organic food waste from the landfill to composting facilities and biomethanation/anaerobic digestion plants.

our mission

The best provider of 100% compostable paper products to divert organic waste.

BAG TO EARTH is committed to providing products that not only preserve, but also enrich, the environment.

our methods

Why Paper?

Plastic bags labelled as “biodegradable” or “compostable” may leave plastic particles in the soil. Paper waste bags actually help the organic food waste cycle by adding much needed nutrients in the composting process. Our food waste bags are completely plastic-free. Made from 100% renewable and sustainable resources, all the raw materials that go into our bags – including vegetable-based inks and glues – are 100% compostable.

Biodegradable and compostable plastic bags sound good for the earth. Are they? Made chiefly from petro-chemicals, even plastic bags labelled biodegradable or certified compostable do not fully disappear into the earth; they simply break down into smaller and smaller particles.

No matter how tiny, these particles can still contaminate the compost. In contrast, BAG TO EARTH paper bags are 100% compostable. Paper comes from trees. What about our forests?

We are committed to environmental sustainability. The paper we use is made from renewable resources that are regenerated in sustainably managed forests.

Environmental Sustainability

The Importance of Raw Materials The efficient management of the resources and raw material suppliers we use is an integral part of our success. BAG TO EARTH products are made from 100% natural and renewable resources, unlike some compostable plastics made from food sources.

All materials that go into our bags – paper, glue and vegetable-based inks – are fully compostable. Once our products enter the composting cycle, they break down; in either a composting or biomethanation/anaerobic digestion process, and are converted into usable compost – disappearing fully and completely into the earth. It is all part of our commitment to not only preserve, but also enrich, the environment.

Purchasing Policy for the Manufacture of Compostable Paper Products BAG TO EARTH is a user of Kraft paper, paper board and wood fibre-based film for the manufacture and packaging of our products. Whenever the manufacturing and user application determines it, that the supply of recycled content be used. If the application determines that virgin paper materials are required, they are sourced from suppliers that have renewable and sustainable forest management programs and certifications. Preference is given to suppliers that have established sustainable and renewable forest management policies, which include COC (Chain of Custody Certification), FSC (Forest Stewardship Certification), SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) and PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification). We ensure our policy of purchasing and use of paper assists and contributes to the long term goals of reducing and ending worldwide deforestation as well as the implementation and support of strong forest management practices.
